Acute bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchi in the lungs that is caused by some sort of an infection, whether it is caused by viral or bacterial. However, there have been instances when chemicals have caused acute bronchitis. It is described as a cough that suddenly appears due to this infection that directly impacts the large airways. Because of the infection, the immune system responds by inflaming the area in an effort of killing the cause of the infection. This, in turn, makes it more difficult to breathe.

Symptoms of Acute Bronchitis

Because acute bronchitis has to do with the lungs, a lot of its symptoms can be easily compared to other illnesses and ailments that are in the lungs. Therefore, it is important to take notice of the symptoms.

  • Wheezing
  • Couching
  • Shortness of Breath

Those are pretty synonymous of any illness that might cause coughing. Allergies cause those three symptoms.

  • Zxpulsion of septum.

Septum is caused by the inflamed cells releasing secretions. When you cough, you’re trying to get rid of that septum to clear up the lungs. Pay attention to the color of it. If there is inflammation, the color of the mucus is going to be green or yellow. This means there is an infection and therefore, might be caused by acute bronchitis.

Treatments of Acute Bronchitis

Typically, there two approaches to treating and getting rid of the acute bronchitis. The first is to use an inhaler that will help get rid of the inflammation. An example would be the use of Albuterol inhalation. The use of this helps to dilate the bronchial tubes.

Another common approach is to use short-term steroid therapy. This helps to minimize the inflammation which makes breathing much easier. One common prescription medication used to get rid of inflammation is prednisone.

However, getting rid of the inflammation doesn’t get rid of the issue that is causing the inflammation to begin with. Once the doctor has diagnosed the actual bacteria or virus that is causing it, antiobitics or antiviral medications might be used to get rid of the cause of the inflammation. However, the issue with viruses is that they have to run their course. There is no cure (just treatment) and therefore, even with an antiviral, the individual will have acute bronchitis until the virus has died so getting rid of inflammation is the most important treatment.
